The output of the Amron International 9201-SGFI System Ground Fault Interrupter is floating, neither side, (high line or neutral) is tied to the ground. The isolation transformer is a toroidal design, recognized to UL544 medical grade. The transformer has thermal fuse protection and a special shield between the primary and secondary windings. A secondary center tap is proved to establish a ground reference for the ground fault detector.

The ground fault interrupter module is a current sense design which monitors the current out of the unit and the return current. The two currents cancel each other out and a sense amplifier monitors the difference. If the current difference exceeds a predetermined value, a disconnect relay shuts down the AC power.
